Sub Domains are extensions of your own domain/s which can be
mapped or pointed to a particular directory inside of your hosting account for example if your domain was yourdomain.com ...
messageboard.yourdomain.com
/youraccount/messageboard

/youraccount/newsite/prototype1
support.yourdomain.com
/youraccount/support/helpdesk
admin.yourdomain.com
/youraccount/admin/billing/console
These Sub Domains become mini sites that branch off your main site. These are useful
for categorizing areas of your website for a more corporate/professional image. Also
commonly used areas of your website can be easily remembered when assigned a Sub Domain
rather then trying to memorize a lengthy directory structure.
eg. promotion.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com/promotions/current/a/081501/
without having to chop & change your website.
A Hostname can be internally mapped to a sub-folder to create a Sub Domain,
or used to externally link to an IP address (such as a mail server). Hostnames
have the form HOSTNAME.domain.com
A Sub Domain is much like an internal redirect through Apache. When the Server receives a request
for a domain such
as shop.yourdomain.com it will look up the sub domain in the config and return the appropriate
details in the residing Document folder.
You will need to go through 2 steps: Step 1. You will have to go to the Add or remove Hostnames form
and create a new Hostname by entering the Hostname (hostname.yourdomain.com) you want and
select the domain where you would like to create the Hostname from the drop down list. To have it mapped
to your hosting account enter your account name.server101.com or domain into the Map to or leave it default. Once you have
completed creating your Hostname it is time to move on to the next step.
Step 2. Now go to the Add or remove Sub Domains area and Map
your Hostname to the appropriate directory under your hosting account by selecting the Sub Domain from the
Sub Domain drop down list on the left. Then enter the correct directory in the Document Root field (e.g. /members).
Once you have completed these 2 steps. It will take less than 1 hour to setup. Note: Once a new Hostname has been created your domain status will be
forced to unknown for around 1 hour this will not interrupt service to your website.
Make sure you have completed all of the steps above and the Document Root field is pointing to the
right directory. It will also take about 1 hour to fully update your domain settings.
Make sure you have not deleted your Document Root for that particular account. We also have reports of customers
domains not resolving from time to time so it could be your DNS server at your ISP. If all else fails send an email to
support@server101.com.
You can not have a CGI directory under your sub domains. Although you can have your scripts in your
main CGI directory and link them directly.

No. Deleting the Sub Domain will only remove the entries in our records regarding the
Sub Domain. It will take around 1 hour for your changes to fully take effect.
